Health Benefits of Eating Chicken

  • Chicken is a lean meat (with chicken breast the leanest part of the chicken). The fat in chicken is less saturated compared with other meat such as beef. However, do avoid eating chicken with the skin. Chicken skin is loaded with fat and saturated fat.
  • For older people, consumption of chicken provides them with protein that protects them against bone loss.
  • Chicken contains cancer-protecting nutrients, niacin. Lacking of niacin has been connected with genetic (DNA) damage. Four ounces of chicken can fulfill about 72% of our daily niacin needs.
  • Chicken contains trace mineral, selenium. Selenium is important for our body’s thyroid hormone metabolism, antioxidant defense systems, and immune function.
  • Chicken is a good source of vitamin B6, which is needed to support not only energy metabolism throughout our body, but also needed for our cardiovascular health.
  • Chicken contains phosphorus, which is a mineral essential for the health of our teeth and bones.
